Privacy notice

Free to Be will collect and store private data via emails sent to Gmail and Google Forms that the individual chooses to share. Only data that is necessary will be collected. The data will be held securely on Google Docs, Gmail or on a password protected computer. It will only be shared if there is a serious concern as set out in the confidentiality and safeguarding statements.

Data is collected for the following purposes:

  •       To use to contact the individual
  •       For the teacher to have awareness of any issues that they may need to support the individual with further
  •       To inform individuals of other events Free to be runs

The data will be kept for one year after the individual stops engaging with Free To Be.  Individuals must opt in if they wish to go on the mailing list. They can request to be removed from the list at any time by contacting Free to Be.

Individuals can request to have their data deleted or amended at any time.

Confidentiality Statement

It is important that individuals feel safe to share information, thoughts, feelings and experiences with the teacher and/ or within the group space. Any information an individual shares with the teacher and/or in the group is held in strict confidence unless there are serious concerns as detailed below in the Safeguarding Statement. 

Participants are asked not to share what others discuss in the group space.

Confidentiality applies to information that has been heard or seen, as well as to information in writing, and to information acquired accidentally as well as that given deliberately.

Other than in exceptional cases as set out in the Safeguarding Statement, no information about an individual will be shared.  Information would only be shared if there was a child or adult safeguarding issues and serious concern for a person’s safety. Safeguarding Statement

Safeguarding of children and adults are important issues. As part of ethical conduct, these concerns and will always be supported and taken seriously by the teacher. If the teacher is made aware of any concerns for the safety or well being of an individual,, they will seek to discuss this with the person from whom the issues concern. They will seek to support this person to acquire additional support, signposting where necessary. In the event the teacher feels the person at risk will not seek the support needed, and feels they are at serious risk of harm, they may need to contact services. They will always seek to work with and gain consent from the person involved and would only go against this in exceptional circumstances where someone was at serious risk of harm.

Support around self-harm and/ or feelings of suicide

If an individual has thoughts around harming themselves or ending their life, the teacher would first seek to support and signpost them. If a person was at immediate risk of ending their life, the teacher may need to call emergency services for help. In this circumstance, they will seek to gain consent from the person involved and would only go against this if they felt the individual was at serious risk of harm.
